Open Innovation
The Open Operability Project launched in 2009 with the purpose of building an advanced cloud IT infrastructure with OSS (Open Source Software) stack. Our vision is to realize an innovative computing platform based on scalable, reliable, and secure architecture to create new value for DOCOMO’s customers. Our research focus is resource management, including allocation, monitoring, auto-scaling, failover, usage estimation, and backup. We developed the OSS Inter-Cloud Navigator called “Clanavi,” which integrates multiple public/private clouds including Amazon EC2, Eucalyptus, XCP (Xen Cloud Platform), and OpenStack.
The Open Operability Project also aims to develop algorithms, theories, and technologies for extracting and delivering useful information out of huge amounts of data by utilizing our cloud computing platform. Mobile phones have many sensors, including GPS and pedometers, to assist us in our daily lives. Information from mobile telecommunication services could be very useful to re-design our society and improve our quality of life.
